PROGRAM

ARRIVAL DAY

On arrival check in at Wilde Paarde Kloof farm, home of Farmer Redbeard, any time after 2pm. At 5.30pm sundowners will be served at the original Mill house used by the Van Zyl’s and travellers (between Robertson and Montagu), 10 generations ago to mill their grain. Here you will get to taste 2 of Farmer Redbeard’s single vineyard wines and enjoy a light snack.

He will share the itinerary and plan for the weekend.

Your accommodation will be in one of our warm and comfortable self-catering farmhouses that have been lovingly renovated. They range from ‘Die Ou huis” (sleeps 8), an old historic farmhouse; to Vinkel and Koljander (sleeps 4), 2 farm cottages that have been modernized for your comfort; or Aloe (sleeps 8), a cozy duplex that combine new and old comforts.

DAY 1

After a peaceful night’s sleep and breakfast, you set off for your exciting hands on harvest micro-adventure. First coffee and safety briefing around the fire pit, then get suited up in your bee-suite and get ready to bee-exhilarated.

The tractor will take you to the beehives where you will be allowed to assist the honeycomb retrieval process safely. Thereafter, it is off to the honey processing room to uncap the honeycomb and spin out the honey. This activity makes for hungry beekeepers, so a honey tasting on fresh farmhouse bread is a must.

The afternoon is free to visit the neighboring villages, shop, go mountain biking or hiking on the farm, fruit picking (by arrangement), dam swimming or take a well needed rest.

That evening at 5.30pm, the bakkie or tractor will fetch you from your room for a sunset tractor ride through the vineyards and orchards to the Langeberg mountain, where you are enveloped by the beauty of the farm, magnificent Eucalyptus trees,  fynbos and fresh air; followed by a warm and welcoming bush braai experience at the heart of his farm. Farmer Redbeard will be your personal chef. He will spoil you with traditional South African cuisine. Your meal includes traditional and home cooked side dishes & meat prepared to perfection on the braai; while you “kuier lekker” (“a wonderful meeting”) around a bush fire. Farmer Redbeard then accompanies you on a night drive back home to your accommodation.

DAY 2

The next day, hiking lovers will be in for a treat.  Dig out your walking shoes and get ready for a historical walk (8km, easy walk). The mountain, the building ruins and old homesteads remind us of the Anglo boer war and the great trek of the Dutch and French Huguenots (ancestors of the Redbeard’s). Animal tracking adds to the adventure and excitement. Sweet smelling fynbos lingers in your memory all the way back home. Wilde Paarde Kloof is known for its enchanting beauty. So don’t be a ‘wanna-bee’, rather bee what you ‘wanna-bee!’

PERSONS WHO ARE KNOWN TO BE ALLERGIC TO BEES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THIS ADVENTURE, BUT you are welcome to bring your family and friends who would like to share PART of the adventure. A separate fee excluding certain activities can be calculated.

Clothing: Beekeepers need to bring long thick trousers (jeans will do), long socks and closed shoes for the beekeeping experience. Safety equipment and gear will be provided by Farmer Redbeard.

COST: ADULTS per person sharing R1900 including accommodation and all activities.

R2500 per person non sharing.

R950 per CHILD (7 years and older).
